History

Through the years

1961 The doors opened for grades 1 through 6 with an enrollment of 262 students. Tuition was $8 per month, per family.

1962 Construction began on two new classrooms. Enrollment opened to 7th and 8th grade students.

1963 Seventy six students registered for 1st grade.

1964 St. Dominic experienced phenomenal growth in enrollment and additional classrooms were added.

1972 St. Dominic grew to two classes in grades 1 through 8.

1980 Saint Dominic gained full accreditation with the Alabama Department of Education.

1988 Saint Dominic added two new classrooms and the new gymnasium was completed.

1991 Saint Dominic received full accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

1999 The new preschool opened. Renovation of the Adams Center were completed to house a Library/Media Center, Art Room, Music Room and Computer Lab.

2003 A new teachers’ lounge was built adjacent to the former convent which currently houses the administrative offices.

2008 A new parking lot was installed in front of the school and gates were installed to improve campus security.

2012 School restrooms were renovated and the roofs and classroom HVAC systems were updated. The after school daycare room in the Adams Center was renovated to house the band program.

2014 Renovations on our current Administration building began. The redesigned building houses our school administration and office staff but allowed for the relocation of student services providing space for our counselor and resource room. Our Preschool program relocated to the main campus in the newly constructed Early Childhood Center.
