The Monsignor Murphy Fund for Education
Dear Friends of St. Dominic Catholic School,
The school year has begun at St. Dominic Catholic School and you can feel the energy and passion of our students the moment you step on campus. As we all know, St. Dominic is truly a special church and school. There is no doubt that the generosity of people connected to St. Dominic, like you, is an integral part of what makes St. Dominic a special school in our community. Indeed, the children of St. Dominic are the grateful beneficiaries of the Monsignor Murphy Annual School Fund, and although they may never fully comprehend your sacrifice and generosity, any investment you make in them will yield long-term benefits in our community and in our parish.
If you have not contributed previously, please know that a tax deductible gift to the 2016-2017 Monsignor Murphy Annual School Fund is not only a great way to help the school, but also honors a holy man, who even in retirement, dedicates his life to our school and parish. A gift of any size allows us to do remarkable things at St. Dominic through the purchase of equipment, technology and other educational materials. A portion of the fund is used to assist our dedicated teachers by allowing them to attend seminars and workshops. A separate allocation of the fund also allows us to provide financial aid to those families who seek a Catholic education but are unable to do so without some assistance.
I’m asking you to seriously and prayerfully consider a gift to the Annual School Fund. With this year’s generous contributions, we hope to accomplish the following:
- Provide much needed new playground equipment for our preschoolers and elementary students,
- Provide for necessary resources within the new administration building,
- Designate funds to provide for tuition assistance for qualifying families committed to Catholic education, and
- Continue support for world arts and languages instruction to enrich the core curriculum.
I have enclosed a brochure to provide additional information on the Monsignor Murphy Annual School Fund, and a pledge card is enclosed for your consideration. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Go Eagles!

Good News: After much planning and countless hours of dedicated work, I am pleased to announce that the Parish of St. Dominic has received permission from Archbishop Rodi to move forward with Phase II of our Capital Improvements for St. Dominic Catholic School. As you know in 2011 we began a capital campaign with a goal of 2.25 million dollars. The parish realized 1.5 million in pledged support of the project. Using a part of that money, the parish made necessary improvements to the school’s roof, HVAC systems and bathroom renovations at a cost of $900,000, including all professional fees.
Presently we are introducing the second push of the campaign with a goal of 1.2 million dollars. The parish will this summer renovate two classrooms and create two more classroom (from existing facilities) costing $170,000. These renovations would create classrooms for pre-school 2, 3 and 4 year olds and Kindergarten. We would also like to raze the existing administration building and replace it with a new structure, giving the school a defined entrance and additional space for the school’s counselor and resource teacher. Cost estimates, including demolition and abatement $380,000. The building committee abandoned the renovation of the existing facility when the cost of renovating the 50 year structure exceeded the cost of new construction.
The parish has been blessed with a “diamond” of a school that enhances not only the Catholic Education of our student now and for the last two generation but will provide even better opportunities for future generations. Please join me in supporting our Faith and the Future Campaign.
With eyes ever on the future, the next moneys raised with your assistance will provide for the refurbishment of our beautiful Church’s interior and an extension of the church to include a porte-cochere that will provide cover during inclement weather and a gathering space for social function outside the church.
In other news, the two lower roofs on the church will have to be replaced in order to repair major leaking. The low bid is $47,000 dollars. Please help where you can and when called upon with a prayerful spirit of generosity.
